About Stephanie

I’m a California native who loves travel, makeup, fitness and art. I’ve spent my career helping the world’s largest companies better secure their networks to mitigate the risk of falling prey to the next big cyber attack and am extremely passionate about helping minorities to be unapologetically themselves in tech. I aim to serve as an example of how to let your minority status fuel your professional life.

How did you get into tech?

My background is in cybersecurity and I spent about 4 years consulting as an Ethical Hacker for some of the largest companies in the world. I chanced into cybersecurity my last year of college when I signed up for an ethical hacking class because I wanted to learn how to pick a lock, and haven’t looked back since. This has proven to be the most rewarding and simultaneously challenging field and I love the fast pace at which everything changes!

What languages/technologies do you have the most experience in?

Cyber Security/Ethical Hacking/Incident Response/Digital Forensics/Breach investigations

What are you currently learning/practising?

Currently learning how businesses operate in Latin America to start building out my company’s presence there 🙂

What are your favourite resources to learn/stay updated on tech?

I subscribe to a number of RSS feeds through Feedly. I really like Dark Reading.

What would people learn about by following you?

That owning every aspect of your identity empowers you to have a more gratifying career and more substantive professional relationships.

Happy #workitwednesday techies!⠀ ⠀ BEING UNAPOLOGETIC⠀ ⠀ Do you realize what a blessing it is to be different? Off the jump, you’re equipped with a unique perspective, a specific set of expertise. Last year, I had an eye opening conversation with my beautiful friend @valentinabayonan about what a blessing it is to be unique. I remember her saying something like “Why would you want to be someone other that who you are?”. I still remember the look of assuredness on her face; she knew that who she was was different, a gift and something to be shared.⠀ ⠀ Chicos. Chicas. Being a minority in any regard challenges our sense of identity. A lack of representation can makes us feel like we have to conform to the norm to find success in our fields. I can tell you from firsthand experience that the decision to conform actually moves you away from those feelings of success. Why? Because you lose authenticity and people pick up on that.⠀ ⠀ Own who you are. Own what makes you different. “Work Stephanie” is the same as @seveca, the same full of life, full of attitude, crazy, loves to party, somewhat boujee, totally down to be a grandma on weekends Stephanie. It wasn’t always this way, but my work relationships are so much more gratifying now that I’ve decided to be unapologetic and bring my whole self to work. By leaning into myself and who I am, I allow my coworkers to lean into me as well.⠀ ⠀ What do you to do remain authentic at work?
